The Georgia State Team Time Trail squad at the UF race weekend

_______________________________________________________________________

***NEW***

March 9, 2010: Here is the pre-registration link again for the Georgia Tech race weekend.

Also, try not to forget your numbers this weekend. If you do, the conference has exactly one duplicate of each number to give you as a backup. If you lose two, we can still give you another number, it will just be a little more difficult to keep track of you.

_______________________________________________________________________

March 3, 2010: Finalized results are now posted from the Georgia Southern race weekend.

Points have now been updated through the Georgia Southern race weekend. They are located in the "Results" section of the site.

_______________________________________________________________________

March 1, 2010: Results from the TTT, Crit, and RR are posted from the GSU weekend.

The Georgia Tech flyer is now posted in the "Calendar" section of the site.

_______________________________________________________________________

February 24, 2010: Finalized results from the FSU weekend are now up. Points have been updated, as well, in the "Results" section of the site.

The weekend was covered again by VeloNews, this time written by Jack Tomassetti of FSU. Check it out here.

Don't forget to bring your numbers from FSU with you to the Georgia Southern race!

_______________________________________________________________________

February 22, 2010: ITT, TTT, RR, and Crit results from the FSU race weekend have been posted in the "Calendar" section.

_______________________________________________________________________

February 19, 2010: Updated flyers for both the Florida State and Georgia Southern race weekends are now re-posted in the "Calendar" section.

_______________________________________________________________________

February 15, 2010: I've posted the total allocations that the SECCC has been given for 2010 in both mountain and road on the conference website in the "Nationals" section. In D1, the SECCC lost slots, and in D2, the conference gained slots. As a note, nationals allocations are determined by how many collegiate licenses our conference purchases over the course of the year.

D1

Road Race: 2009 - 17 slots, 2010 - 15

Crit: 2009 - 13 slots, 2010 - 11

Cross Country: 2009 - 16 slots, 2010 - 15

Short Track: 2009 - 12, 2010 - 11

D2

Road Race: 2009 - 15 slots, 2010 - 16

Crit: 2009 - 11 slots, 2010 - 12

Cross Country: 2009 - 14 slots, 2010 - 16

Short Track: 2009 - 11, 2010 - 12

February 13, 2010: If you are planning on racing the Florida State weekend February 20-21, please fill out the pre-registration form here.

_______________________________________________________________________

February 9, 2010: Points are now posted after the UF race weekend in the "Results" section of the site. Congrats to both Florida (D1) and Mars Hill (D2), who won the team omniums this past weekend.

_______________________________________________________________________

February 8, 2010: Results are posted in the "Calendar" section of the website from the UF race weekend.

_______________________________________________________________________

February 5, 2010: I saw this free webinar on USA Cycling's website and I thought it may be of some interest to the conference, especially since a lot of racers begin competing at the collegiate level:

FREE WEBINAR for USA Cycling Members: Preparing for your First Bike Race

USA Cycling's Coaching Education Department is putting on a FREE webinar on Feb. 16 aimed at helping a cyclist prepare for his or her first race. Led by Kristen Dieffenbach, PhD, the webinar will focus on mountain bike cross country races and mass start road races. Whether you're a young rider or a more mature first-timer, Dr. Dieffenbach will go over logistical matters and cover some of the issues you might encounter at your first bike race (like buying a license and not forgetting your helmet). Click here to register.

_______________________________________________________________________

February 2, 2010: The race numbers for the road season are in! They are color-coded for each class; for instance, Men's A numbers are 1-200 with a yellow flood-coat, Women's B are 700-800 with an orange flood-coat, etc. As a reminder, these numbers will be your season-long numbers for the SECCC. So, make sure to bring them to each race. If you forget, we'll have one identical copy of your number just in case. But try not to forget your number more than once, as it eases scoring a lot if everyone has the same number all season.

The one exception to this is the UF race this coming weekend. They will be issuing their own numbers, just for their event, since they work heavily with another promoter to host their event. As a result of this, the first time you will receive your season-long numbers will be at the Florida State event February 20-21.

February 1, 2010: You can pre-register for the UF race this coming weekend here.

_______________________________________________________________________

January 25, 2010: The Georgia Southern and Florida fliers has been posted in the "Calendar" section of the website.

_______________________________________________________________________

January 16, 2010: The Florida State flyer has been posted in the "Calendar" section of the website.

The new 2010 Collegiate and USAC Rulebooks have been updated in the "Rulebooks" section of the website.

The promoter fees report for 2009 is available and located in the "Miscellaneous" section of the site.

_______________________________________________________________________

January 15, 2010: One of the goals for the SECCC is to see the conference offer collegiate races in all four disciples that currently crown collegiate national champions (mountain biking, road, cyclocross, and track). Obviously, mountain biking and road have significant seasons already, and our first cx season debuted in 2009. Well, I have been contacted by the Operations Manager, Jeff Hopkins, of the Dick Lane Velodrome in Atlanta in order to setup a track event in 2010 for the SECCC. If you recall last year, for Collegiate Track Nationals, many riders needed to pull together resumes in order to qualify for the event. Well, Jeff has offered to help the SECCC out this year with meeting those qualifications. They are offering to put together a qualifications class (perhaps at a discount for collegiate racers), and then offer collegiate events the same weekend. The event would most likely happen in August of this year.

If you (or your team) would be interested in participating in an event like this, can you please send me an e-mail (nhaslick@usacycling.org)? That way, I can give Jeff an idea of how many collegiate riders are interested in the event.

-Nathan

_______________________________________________________________________

January 14, 2010: The SECCC had a conference call on Wednesday, and the result was a couple of rule changes. The full changes can be seen by looking at the "Rulebooks" link on the lefthand side of this page and clicking on "SECCC Rulebook", but the summary is as follows:

-Half of all events in the road season (plus conference finals) will count towards Nationals Qualifications

-ITT's will not be counted towards Nationals Qualifications, and any race weekend that holds an ITT must also support a TTT concurrently. However, any race weekend that has a TTT does not need to hold an ITT event.

-Entry fees will change to $14 per event for road races, crits, and ITT's, and $28 per team for TTT's

_______________________________________________________________________

January 8, 2010: I wanted to mention that the first collegiate road race of the season is one month away at the University of Florida February 6-7. I'm looking forward to the event, and hope to have a flyer up for the event in the next couple of weeks.

With that in mind, I would like to have a conference call next Wednesday at 7pm EST to update the rulebook on any items that may need to be looked at. There are a couple of specific things. Probably most important is that there is currently not a specific rule determining how many events count for individual riders and teams. I am pretty sure this came up last year, and we had to count every event for Nationals qualifications. Other items are whether or not to eliminate ITT's, whether or not to continue promoter fees, and anything else that needs to be discussed. If you have a topic you would like discussed, please shoot me an e-mail! This is a great opportunity to bring something to my attention while my perspective is fresh.

The SECCC now has a Facebook page! You can join the group here. The page is under "SECCC." A couple of highlights are the option to add more pictures than the website (most pics are too big for the site), videos, and a discussion board. The first topic for the discussion board: "What do you want to see most this spring for the road season?"

The SECCC is also Twittering....follow conference news at http://twitter.com/secccc (that's 4 c's, not 3!).

A couple of new items that the SECCC was able to purchase in the offseason include a new PA system for easier communication on race days and we think that we will have leader's jerseys available this year, that would award overall season winners, overall season sprint winners, and overall climber winners.

Last but not least, I went ahead and purchased numbers for the road season today. These will be your season-long numbers for all 7 events. Hopefully, this will improve scoring throughout the year, since every rider will only have one number. I ordered two copies of each number, in case one gets lost or torn or forgotten.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions.

Nathan Haslick, SECCC Director

January 7, 2010: Here's an interesting way to make use of those old race numbers: link. And only $233!

_______________________________________________________________________

December 16, 2009: The Collegiate Cyclocross Nationals just wrapped up this past weekend in Bend, Oregon, and SECCC had a pretty good showing. We had three teams participate, with Lees McRae taking 2nd in the overall omnium (D1), Mars Hill College taking 6th (D2), and Savannah College of Art and Design taking 9th (D2). Speaking of Savannah CAD, Ryan Leech took home a national championship in the D2 Men's race, so congrats to him! Also on the podium was Matt Willing (Mars Hill) in 4th, Eric Thompson (Lees McRae) in 5th, and Kristen Markham (Lees McRae) in 4th. If you want to read more about the event, you can find more information here.

_______________________________________________________________________

December 1, 2009: First of all, thank you to everyone that participated in the first-ever SECCC cyclocross conference finals event at Brevard College. Results are now posted on the website. We had a good turnout of 28 riders from 8 schools participate. Coming from the event, we had the following riders crowned as conference champions:

D1 Women: Erica Zaveta, Lees McRae

D2 Women: Alexis Decosimo, Brevard

D1 Men: Eric Thompson, Lees McRae

D2 Men: Ryan Leech, Savannah CAD

Congrats to them! They will receive the call-ups at CX Nationals in Bend, Oregon in mid-December as SECCC conference champions.

Speaking of Collegiate Nationals, the last day to pre-register is quickly approaching. The last day is December 3rd. The information is available here. Just as a reminder, there are no point or participation requirements for competing at Collegiate CX Nationals in the SECCC. You just need to have a current collegiate license and have the basic eligibility requirements fulfilled at your school in order register and race. And be able to afford to fly your bike and you across the country!

_______________________________________________________________________

November 19, 2009: I have posted the road calendar in the "Calendar" section of the website.

Also, just as an FYI, the winners of the two conference championship races this weekend at Brevard will get the call-ups at Cyclocross Nationals for the SECCC.

_____________________________________________________________________

November 18, 2009: You can find a good article on the King College cyclocross race here.

______________________________________________________________________

November 16, 2009: King College cyclocross results are posted.

______________________________________________________________________

November 3, 2009: The monthly collegiate newsletter is out for November. It has a ton of information, including club of the year information, rule changes, information on CX Nationals, and some good info on one of the SECCC's newest schools, Union College. It's a great read. Check it out here.

Rankings are out for the National Rankings, and several of our schools are near the top. D1 rankings are here and D2 rankings are here.

The flyer has been posted for the SECCC CX conference championships at Brevard.

______________________________________________________________________

October 30, 2009: Unfortunately, Clemson has also cancelled their CX race due to a home football game.

In the meantime, Dan Kreiss from King College (one of our newer SECCC schools) has offered to give a partial solution to these cancellations. Working with the Mud, Sweat, and Gears CX series, Dan has been able to contact the promoter and get collegiate categories added to their November 14th race at Johnson City, TN. This is a very well run series with a great reputation. The promoter has also agreed to just charge the SECCC maximum entry fee of $13 per race for those that race in collegiate categories. The flyer is posted on the SECCC website. Collegiate categories will race in the following events (per the rulebook):

"A" riders can race in cat 1/2/3 events

"B" riders can race in cat 3/4 events

"C or below" riders can race in cat 4 events

I'm also getting a lot of questions on the 2010 road season. I have a 2nd draft completed for the season, I just need to contact each individual hosting school and get the ok from them that they are fine with their dates. Once I get that confirmation, I can get that information posted. I would estimate having that posted by mid-November.

______________________________________________________________________

October 26, 2009: Unfortunately, the promoter UGA was working with cancelled their CX event at the last minute and as a result, the SECCC has had to do the same. There will be no SECCC CX race this weekend.

I also feel that it would only be fair that we roll back the rule that you must compete in at least 2 SECCC CX races in order to qualify for Nationals, in light of the fact that there are now only 3 total races on the calendar.

Sorry for any issues that this may have caused! If you would like further information, please feel free to send me an e-mail.

-Nathan

______________________________________________________________________

October 22, 2009: If you would, please take this 5-10 minute survey on this past mountain bike season. I value your feedback a lot, and I use the feedback to shape a lot of what the SECCC is. It is completly anonymous, so please be honest! You can find the survey here.

______________________________________________________________________

October 12, 2009: Here's an interesting idea to fundraise: link.

______________________________________________________________________

October 9, 2009: XC, STXC, DH, and DS results are posted from the Clemson weekend.

Points are updated for the mountain season. Our season winners are the following:

Division I Team Omnium: Lees McRae College

Division II Individual Omnium (Female): Jo Tuttle, Brevard College

Congrats to all and good luck at Nationals!

______________________________________________________________________

October 4, 2009: Collegiate Track Nationals were last weekend. You can read up on it here. The conference had two teams score in the overall omnium: Lees McRae ended up 5th for the weekend, and Georgia State finished 8th, both in the Division 1 omnium. Congrats to those teams!

______________________________________________________________________

September 28, 2009: Points are posted through the Brevard race. Just a reminder: the Clemson race this upcoming weekend is our conference finals race, so points are doubled.

______________________________________________________________________

September 27, 2009: Results are posted from Saturday and Sunday's races at Brevard. Special thanks to the Brevard staff and volunteers for assisting with the results; their help led to the quicker posting times. Thanks guys!

______________________________________________________________________

September 25, 2009: Soon, mountain bike season will give way to the SECCC's first ever cyclocross season. As a precursor to the cyclocross season, King College in Bristol, TN is offering a cyclocross event. While it isn't a part of the SECCC season and it takes place over Mountain Bike Nationals, I'm told that it will be a very well run event and that the promoters are offering 1/2 off entry fees to collegiate racers. So, if you'd like to take part in the "Tornado Cross" event, it takes place on Saturday, October 17th and the flyer is located here.

______________________________________________________________________

September 21, 2009: The conference finals flyer at Clemson is posted on the website.

2010 Road Race Requests are due October 23rd. The form is located in the Miscellaneous section of the site.

The link is up for Mountain Bike Nationals in the Calendar section of the site.

Points are updated through the dual conference race this past weekend. We have a new D1 omnium leader (Lees McRae), while the D2 omnium and D1/D2 individual leaders stayed the same.

I misinterpreted a rule last week, and I had to revise the points slightly. The Appalachian State rider that finished 15th in the LMC Men's A XC race last weekend, according to the rulebook, actually gets scored with 15th place points. The result: several riders lost a point or two, but nothing of huge consequence.

______________________________________________________________________

September 20, 2009: Results are posted from the dual conference race this past weekend. As a note to those that didn't attend, the downhill event was cancelled, so that is why there aren't any downhill results.

______________________________________________________________________

September 15, 2009: Points are updated through this past weekend's LMC race.

______________________________________________________________________

September 14, 2009: DH, STXC, DS, and XC results are posted from this past weekend's Lees McRae Race. A note on the Downhill results; on the Excel document, it appears that there were ties on a lot of the Men's A results. They were not actually ties; we timed down to hundreths of a second, but the Excel version did not show to that detail.

______________________________________________________________________

September 8, 2009: Points are posted through the FSU race this past weekend. As always, they are located in the "Results" section of the site. I've also posted another points tabulation for the SECCC omnium awards. Those point totals are right below the other set of points.

Lees McRae is doing a Wednesday night short track race series in the month of September. I've attached the flyer in the "Miscellaneous" section of the site if your team is interested.

______________________________________________________________________

September 7, 2009: All results are posted from this past weekend's race at Florida State. For some reason, the on-site official did not record a good portion of the XC times. As a result, all we have is placings for a majority of the participants. You'll still get scored; but your time will read N/A (not available). Our apologies!

______________________________________________________________________

September 6, 2009: Some good pictures from this past weekend's FSU race are located here and here.

______________________________________________________________________

September 4, 2009: I've been informed that a lot of riders, especially in our conference, are unable to meet the minimum requirements to compete at Track Nationals due to the fact that there are not an abundant number of USAC-sanctioned events in our region of the country. The collegiate board of directors is trying to be sensitive to that fact, and are inviting anyone who has competed in a track event, even if it was not a USAC-sanctioned event, to petition the board for inclusion for Nationals eligibility. In order to get this exception, please provide the following information to Jeffrey Hansen, our Collegiate Program Manager, by Wednesday, September 9th.

1. The issue (Riders have raced in 1 or more track races but these races are not sanctioned by USAC because there are no USAC sanctioned races in the ares).

2. Each Rider Name, License, School and list of races participated in.

Jeffrey's e-mail is: jhansen@usacycling.org

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. I'll do my best to answer them, or at least, direct you to someone who can.

-Nathan

______________________________________________________________________

September 2, 2009: Points have been totaled through the ETSU race this past weekend. They are posted in the "Miscellaneous" section of the website. If you want a quick and dirty, one page version of the team omnium, I've attached it here.

The FSU flyer has been posted in the "Calendar" section of the website.

______________________________________________________________________

August 30, 2009: STXC, DH, DS and XC results are posted from the ETSU race weekend. Points tabulations are forthcoming...

______________________________________________________________________

August 26, 2009: Joshua Longenecker from Georgia Tech took some amazing pictures at the Georgia Tech race this past weekend. Check them out here.

______________________________________________________________________

August 25, 2009: The points have been totaled after the first race weekend. They are located in the "Results" section of the website. Warren Wilson and Florida cleaned up in their respective divisions, with WWC securing maximum points in 3 of the 4 events and UF securing maximum points in 2 of the 4 events.

The Brevard race flyer has been posted on the Calendar section of the website.

______________________________________________________________________

August 23, 2009: ITT, STXC, DS, and XC results are posted from the Georgia Tech race.

______________________________________________________________________

August 17, 2009: The Lees McRae flyer has been posted on the calendar.

______________________________________________________________________

August 14, 2009: The flyers for the ETSU and App State dual conference race have been posted to the website.

We had a call on Monday to review the SECCC-specific rules, and all of them will go into effect this fall. Thanks to everyone that participated! The final rules, as well, are posted on the SECCC website.

And finally, an announcement:

Union College, formerly of the MWCCC, has been moved to join the SECCC beginning with this fall's mountain bike season. Union College is located right across the Tennessee/Kentucky border (on the Kentucky side) and has had quite a solid history of fast mountain bike riders. They've won a division II omnium title in '02 and finished on the podium last season at Nationals. At this time, Union only fields a mountain bike team but in the future, hopes to branch out into other disciplines. So, please join me in welcoming Coach Coffey and his team to the SECCC!

In addition to Union College, expect to see some other new teams out there for the Mountain Bike, CX, and Road seasons. King College (in Bristol, TN) and Milligan College (near Johnson City, TN) both have coaches for their teams and Mercer University in Macon, GA has also let me know that they will be racing.

______________________________________________________________________

August 7, 2009: Here are some interesting stats on collegiate cycling pulled from USA Cycling's Annual 2008 report.

______________________________________________________________________

August 5, 2009: Georgia Tech's race flyer has been posted under the "Calendar" section.

______________________________________________________________________

July 28, 2009: I have received the new Collegiate Program Manger's contact information and have posted it in the "contacts" section of the website.

Only 3 1/2 weeks until the first mountain bike race weekend, August 22/23 at Georgia Tech!

______________________________________________________________________

July 20, 2009: Although the SECCC doesn't have a specific season for track (yet), there are still opportunities out there if you are interested in Collegiate Track Nationals, which will take place over the weekend of September 24-26 in Trexlertown, PA. The first opportunity was Curtis Grace's e-mail looking for possible interest in a track event that would be held in Atlanta if there were enough participants. Please let me know if you missed out on this info, and I can forward it to you. In addition to that, Penn State has created an opportunity for you to race the Nationals course before the big event. The event takes place on August 8th, and the flyer is here and registration is here.

______________________________________________________________________

July 7, 2009: As you may have heard, Daniel Matheny stepped down earlier this summer as Collegiate and High School Program Manager for USA Cycling. As of July 27th, we will have a new program manager. His name is Jeffrey Hansen and he rode for Colorado College. I'll be sure to post his contact information to the website as soon as I get it.

______________________________________________________________________

July 3, 2009: I have updated the conference rulebook, located in the “rulebooks” section of the SECCC webpage. Basically, the USA Cycling Collegiate rulebook (all 130 pages of it) covers most of the groundwork for rules; however, there are some items that are left up to the individual conferences to decide, such as points, numbers, race fees, etc. I have updated the SECCC’s rulebook to accommodate changes, and I have inserted comments where things have changed. If you would like, review them and either e-mail me your comments or jot them down. I’ll host an open forum conference call in August before the fall season starts where you can bring comments or suggest changes. Just to be clear: these rule changes are not active yet; they are just suggestions as of now. They won’t be officially published until the open forum is complete. I just wanted to give everyone plenty of time to review them before the fall season begins.

____________________________________________________________________

June 30, 2009: The final rankings for the 2008-2009 school year have been compiled. These rankings include all four collegiate disciplines (track, mountain, cyclocross, and road) beginning with track in September of '08 through the road season in May of '09. You can read more about the rankings here. In division I, Lees McRae took the overall title. Other SECCC schools scored well, including Georgia State (13th), Florida (18th), Tennessee-Chattanooga (19th), and Georgia (37th). You can find the full results here. In division II, Cumberland scored the highest for the SECCC in 10th. Other SECCC schools receiving rankings include Warren Wilson (14th), Brevard (16th), Furman (19th), ETSU (28th), and Emory (52nd). You can find the full results here.

_____________________________________________________________________

June 19, 2009: I thought I would give you something to salivate over for the summer. I received the conference trophies a few days ago for the mountain season. See the team omnium trophies here and the individual omnium trophies here.

_____________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the new SECCC website! Feel free to browse around and check out the features and functionality. As this is a brand new venture for the SECCC (and certainly a new venture for me), please feel free to send me any areas that you feel the page is lacking. I would be glad to hear suggestions for improvement. While it is brand new, the expectation is to make this the "hub" for all things SECCC in the future.
