Texas A&M take all but one conference championship with Chad Haga and Abby Richmond taking the Men's and Women's overall titles respectively. Texas A&M also scored the overall team championship outclassing Texas State and the University of Texas for the entire season.
Texas A&M and the University of Houston scored big wins over the weekend at the Baylor Mountain Bike Race at Cameron Park in Waco. UH's affectionately know "Izzy" took wins in both the short track and XC in the men's C. Scoring another win for the season, was Houston's Mitch Comardo. Texas A&M scored victories in the STXC with Chad Haga in the Men's A and Abby Richmond in the Women's A STXC and XC. Overall for the weekend, Baylor hosted a great event at a great venue. Everyone is looking forward to the next race of the season as the conference battle and qualifications for mountain bike nationals heats up.
The University of Houston's Mitch Comardo arrived at Rocky Hill Ranch with a mission, and it was accomplished as he crossed the line with a commanding lead in the Men's A race at Rocky Hill Ranch in the XC race this weekend. Chad Haga from Texas A&M placed a solid second and built upon his overall conference lead from Camp Eagle with Devin Carroll returning to race action after a horrifying crash at Road Nationals in Ft Collins finished up third for the Aggies. Jen Perez from Texas State topped Abby Richmond from A&M to build on her overall lead as well in the Women's A race. In the other races, TxState swept the B podium in their home race while the Women's B race was North Texas, Texas State, U of Houston 1,2,3. Matt Fox, a Midwestern State University junior from Highland Park, Illinois took silver and bronze medals in the first two days at the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships. In the sprint bronze medal finals, Matt defeated Eugene Chacherine from Colorado School of Mines to take the third step on the podium. Later in the event, Fox claimed silver in the 1K TT finals with a time of 1:06.916. Taking gold in the event was the talented David Espinoza from the high power Penn State University program while Dan Lionberg from Colorado State took the bronze.
